Philippines Strengthens Commitment to TVET Excellence at the 8th WorldSkills Asia General Assembly

A renewed commitment to promoting professional excellence and enhancing the quality of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Asia was established among the 28 member countries of WorldSkills Asia following the successful 8th WorldSkills Asia General Assembly in Taipei, Taiwan, held from November 20 to 22, 2024.

TESDA Deputy Director General for TESD Operations Vidal D. Villanueva III led the Philippine delegation at the three-day convention, which gathered 28 member countries and partner industries of WorldSkills Asia. The event served as a key preparatory step for the WorldSkills Asia Competition 2025, set to take place in Taipei.

The General Assembly featured a variety of activities, including technical committee and working group sessions, as well as excursions to Taipei’s renowned tourist attractions and industry sites. Joining DDG Villanueva in representing the Philippines were TESDA Executive Directors Ma. Magdalena Butad and Juliet Orozco.

TESDA’s delegation returned from the event with valuable insights into Taiwan’s technological advancements, updates on the WorldSkills Asia Competition 2025, and potential avenues for industry partnerships. Most importantly, the assembly reinforced a shared vision among member countries to promote professional excellence and elevate the standards of TVET across Asia.



WorldSkills ASEAN is the largest showcase of professional and technical skills in the ASEAN (The Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region and brings the objectives of the WorldSkills movement to Southeast Asia. The skills competition was initiated by an agreement among ASEAN Member States in 1993 and aims to promote and raise skills standards in the ASEAN region to an international level, as well as to motivate youths to develop their skills and knowledge. ASEAN Member States take turns to host the biennial WorldSkills ASEAN Competition.
